"Aromas of barley sugar, toffee apples, apricot nougat and smoky minerals are followed by a complex, balanced palate of honeyed quince, yellow apple, exotic fruits and a leafy, vegetal edge. Refreshing lime acidity leads to a long, mineral finish."
"The wine is now a golden amber color and offers up a beautifully glazed bouquet of apricot, orange, honey, clover, a fine base of soil tones and a bit of barley sugar in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and very suave on the attack, with a lovely core, vibrant acids, impressive complexity and a very long, easy-going and elegant finish."
"The nose is a ripe and complex blend of baked apples and peaches, incipient notes of tea leaves, candied orange peel, barley sugar, honeyed almonds, a touch of new leather, chalk dust and hints of the raspberry to come. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and quite opulent on the attack, with excellent mid-palate depth and a very soil-driven, structured and firm backend. After the generosity of the attack, the wine’s serious structural integrity and snappy acids on the finish come as a bit of a surprise and augur extremely well for the ultimate quality of this outstanding wine."
"Full gold colour. Dried apricot and lemon peel, waxy and honeyed..."
"...an appealing, mid-gold hue, pure but not excessively or worryingly deep in colour. The nose has a number of classic Chenin traits, showing a warm, woolly character, with faint traces of honey and toffee that I suspect may become a little more apparent with further bottle age. Rich and quite direct and defined on entry, before showing a broad and yet firmly structured character through the midpalate, with good texture cut through most decisively by a classically styled acidity. Little notes of richness on the finish. Lovely balance, and great length."
"...suggestions of seashell and pebbles, giving the nose a freshness and a light suggestion of austerity too. The palate is magnificent, confident, sweet and yet challenging and structured, with little suggestions of biscuit and toast coming in alongside the confident acid-tinged fruit. Overall this is very harmonious, but also confident and challenging, with such beautiful purity and form on the palate. And it is very long too;this has decades ahead of it, years of increased complexity and impact."
"In the glass it displays an intense bronze-gold hue, very true to the style of the vintage and the domaine, with a deeply pigmented, botrytis-driven hue. The aromatics are divine, with notes of baked oranges, macaroons, dried apricot and fresh citrus peel, complicated by the aromas of deep penetration of noble rot, including black tea leaves and liquorice. It is fresh, bright and tense on the palate, with a beautiful precision, energy and direction, combining measured and focused sweetness with a tense, gripped and bright style. The flavours come in layers, with oranges, dried apricots, black tea and hints of tobacco. Deliciously poised, bright and pure, this is quite brilliant. No rush here;drink or hold."
"...from a great vintage for the region and style, it should continue evolving for many decades On this encounter the wine has a rich orange-gold hue in the glass, fresh but clearly speaking of the botrytis intensity that lies hidden within. The nose is just stunning, absolutely classic, with lots of complex character and evolution. I get orange macaroon here, as well as scents of oatmeal biscuit, with touches of caramel and vanilla, with a fine botrytis character as well as a minerally freshness. There are little wisps of grey smoke, and even a little autumnal, tobacco-leaf note as an indicator of this wine’s complex evolution. It has a beautifully rich palate, polished, fresh and pure, with more orange-macaroon character, smoky, pithy and bitter, balanced but with wonderful sweetness. A hugely impressive wine, long, bright, broad and textural, a delightfully framed character, so textural and pure. As hinted at above, while this is fantastic for current drinking, there is no rush, as it has many decades ahead of it yet."
